The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick and based on Stephen King's novel of the same name, follows the story of Jack and his family as they find themselves in a large Colorado hotel for the winter as Jack has recently taken on the job of caretaker for the off-season.
Jack thinks it'll give him time to write the great American novel but, otherworldly forces seem to be at play in the hotel and Jack slowly begins to unravel putting his family in jeopardy!
